Marco Bolognesi

Protocollo

Einaudi Publishers

We are proud to present the graphic novel Protocollo, a joint work between artist Marco Bolognesi and highly acclaimed contemporary writer and Italian master of the Roman Noir Carlo  Lucarelli.

Combining images taken from Marco's latest projects such as Cyborg Faces, Codex Blue, Babylon Federation and Geiko, with Lucarelli's texts, Protocollo tells the science fiction story of a man who discovers that the world is governed by the giant mechanized manufacturer Sendai, who prevents people finding out about how reality really is. Decoding messages and other symbols, the modern anti-hero starts resisting this colossal controlling power by gradually unveiling the truth. Influenced by a range of domains including video, iconography, literature, science fiction, street art and fashion, Protocollo takes us into a futuristic world of collages, cyborgs, genetically-modified beings and human-machine hybrids, exploring themes such as the relation between the human being and technology, the future and fate of society or even the role and power of women.

As curator, director and producer Anna C. Butler writes, Marco Bolognesi possesses a ‘unique approach towards his subjects and an innovative interpretation of contemporary society,' expressed in Protocollo. Moreover, as writer and critique Lorenzo Canova explains, Marco assumes the role of an archeologist in his quest of projecting the future, and is, as a consequence, ‘salvaging and preserving what may be our memories of the first human species to have deliberately chosen to extinguish itself.' Thus, through the eyes of artist Marco Bolognesi and writer Carlo Lucarelli, we are taken into a future world where both the human being and society are fully changed and redefined.

Marco Bolognesi

Art Miami

We are proud to announce that Marco Bolognesi will be attending Art Miami 2009, where he will be exhibiting two photographic artworks from his project Babylon Federation, in collaboration with Olyvia Fine Art gallery.

With women dressed in a mixture of fetish gear, robotic limbs, military uniforms and other symbols, Babylon Federation seeks to represent a vision of the role of women and their power in times of war. As Marco Bolognesi explains, women are at the center of his work as he strongly believes in their power and ability to dominate society in the future. Through his technique of collage and manipulation of the body, Marco creates a series of powerful post-human women who allow him to express this statement through the art of the still image.

Art Miami is not only the city's original and longest-running contemporary art fair but also one of the most prestigious art-related events in the world, showcasing a wide variety of artwork selected from art galleries and other prominent institutions from all over the world.
